Driver Gauge Fit has been on Valleydale Road since 2009. The habit is the reference club, and it is the reason the studio exists at all.
It Started as an Argument About a 3-Wood
Wes Tolliver spent eleven years repairing and building clubs behind the counter of a golf shop in the eastern suburbs before any of this had a name on the door. The work he liked was the bench work. The work that paid was selling whatever had arrived that month.
The turning point was a customer who came back three times in a season to swap fairway woods, each time convinced the new one was better, each time returning unhappy. On the fourth visit Wes asked him to hit his original club again first, at the start of the session rather than the end. The original outperformed both replacements. The customer had never been anything other than tired by the time he tried it.
That was the whole idea. Measure the golfer against a fixed point before measuring anything else. A year later the lease on suite 214 came up, and the studio opened with one bay, a borrowed frequency meter and a loft-lie machine bought at auction from a shop that had closed in Montgomery.

Four Positions We Have Not Changed Since 2009
Independence
No manufacturer sets a volume target here and no brand pays for rack placement. It costs us margin and it is the only way the recommendation means anything.
Reference First
Nothing is reported without a baseline. If we cannot establish a zero for a session, we say so on the sheet rather than quietly presenting numbers as though we had.
Geometry Before Purchase
Length, lie and grip size get corrected before any component is compared. A meaningful minority of sessions end there, and we consider those the good ones.
You Keep the Data
Every raw number goes on the sheet, not just the flattering summary. It is your session and it is your information.
Fitting for Birmingham Golfers
Our clients play everything from sand-capped private fairways along the ridge to municipal layouts on heavy clay that turns concrete by August. Those are not the same fitting problem, and a studio that treats them as one will get the wedges wrong for at least half the people who walk in.
The city also gives us a genuinely four-season calendar in a way people from elsewhere do not expect. Ball flight in February and ball flight in July differ by enough to matter, which is another reason a session sheet records the date and conditions along with the numbers.
We ask every client which two or three courses they play most. It shapes the sole recommendation more than any other single answer.

What We Are Not
Retail is not what happens here. No showroom, no stacked cartons, and anyone hoping to browse and walk out carrying something the same afternoon has the wrong address.
We are not a coaching studio either. If a session reveals that the equipment is fine and the delivery is the problem, we will say so and give you the name of an instructor. Selling a club to somebody who needs a lesson is the fastest way to lose them permanently.
And we are not fast. A proper measurement takes the time it takes. If you need something inside an hour, we would rather tell you now than disappoint you in the bay.
